Team Rubicon, Non-Profit Citizen
Recognizing outstanding achievement and excellence in providing opportunities and services to veterans by a not-for-profit company or organization
Team Rubicon deploys veterans and first responders to disasters around the world, supporting not only local communities in their greatest times of need, but also empowering veterans who are searching for a sense of purpose after their military experience.
Over the course of four short years and more than 70 disaster responses —including hurricane relief, flood recovery, and wildfire mitigation, among many others —Team Rubicon’s ranks have swelled from two Marines to over 18,000 volunteers. Nearly 80 percent of Team Rubicon’s DNA is comprised of military veterans—bridging the gap between valuable, uncommon skillsets developed during chaotic military experiences and national and global disaster response. And arguably most importantly, Team Rubicon provides the trifecta of service, camaraderie, and purpose to many who feel unmoored after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Team Rubicon’s approach to growth is aggressive in the best sense of the word. Their five-year strategic plan includes engaging 75,000 veterans and first responders. This undertaking is made possible by the fact that they are organizationally empowering current volunteers to reach potential volunteers. They are also equipping current volunteers with real world job skills, including suicide prevention credentials, technical heavy equipment and chainsaw training, and FEMA-approved incident command coursework, all of which boost veteran employability and make positive ripples into local communities.
